MattDr Matthew Payne – BSc (Hons); PhD
Dr Payne graduated from James Cook University (2002) with a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology/Aquaculture and subsequently completed his PhD (2007) in molecular microbiology at the University of Queensland. He has held post-doctoral positions at Kings College London, United Kingdom; La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia and currently works as a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. He has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in high-quality, international journals and has been the recipient of over $1,000,000 in competitive research grant funding as a chief investigator.

Dr Payne is a current reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, Infection and Immunity, Molecular Reproduction and Development and the International Journal of Integrative Biology. He has also written for the magazine ‘Sport Diving’ and established (2005) and successfully ran the Townsville-based business, ‘In the Loop Kiteboarding’ until 2009.

Dr Payne is the managing director of Foolproof Reading and is highly experienced in the editing and proofreading of a wide range of documents, especially scientific theses.

Dr Tabone graduated from the University of Melbourne with a BSc (Hons) in 1999 and subsequently completed her PhD (2004) in Molecular Genetics at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. She has held post-doctoral positions at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience; the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; The University of Adelaide; Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Western Australia. She currently works as a Next-Generation Sequencing Field Applications Specialist for the Life Sciences division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Dr Tabone has published over 15 peer-reviewed articles in high-quality, peer-reviewed international journals, written four book chapters, been granted two international patents and has been the recipient of over $800,000 in competitive research grant funding as a chief investigator.
